The History of Keith High School

Keith High School, originally located on five aces of land, was constructed through the efforts of the community, the Dallas County Board of Education, and the Rosenwald Foundation in 1923. Initially, the building was frame and housed grades one through nine, with Mrs. E. W. Lindsey as principal. The name of the school was adopted from the Keith family who worked diligently toward the establishment of this institution of learning.

Numerous changes have occurred since the beginning of Keith High School. In 1949 under the leadership of Mr. S. T. Hatcher, the main building was added. In 1950 eleven acres of land was purchased for the science, Home Economics and Vocational Agriculture Building. The building now stands on sixteen acres of land. Under the leadership of principal I. L. Fort the food services program was initiated. During the leadership of principal J. V. Caldwell, in 1965, a series of improvements were made: the construction of building 0400, a football field, the establishing of the school's band, the construction of the old gymnasium and band room.

Under the administration of these principals other changes have been made to make Keith High School the school it is today. Mr. James Carter, Mr. W. W. Steele, Mr. Freeman Waller,  Mr. Grady W. Broadnax, and Mr. Joseph Pettway, Jr.
